St. Louis County Fair

Einar made his first appearance at the 2010 St. Louis County Fair, and what a hit he was! The Budweiser Clydesdales were a main attraction at the fair this year, and the crowds in and around the Horse Barn were thick. Einar seemed to get nearly as much attention as the Budweiser Clydes! I can't count how many people told me they were sent to the horse barn by friends or family specifically to see Einar. Whenever I took Einar out of his stall, an instant crowd gathered around him. At one point, he had two little kids attached firmly around each of his front legs, posing for a photo. Einar seemed to eat up the attention like the ham he is.

It was a fantastic opportunity for me to expose Einar to the sounds of a large hitch, as the sight and sounds have been known to be quite frightening for a horse. Einar and I stood patiently waiting by the arena for the eight-up hitch of Clydesdales to come into view. Soon we heard the jingle of the harnesses, the music from the wagon, and, of course, the thundering sound of ironshod feet on the pavement. Instead of becoming nervous, Einar let out a loud whinny as if to say, "Hello!" to the big boys as they stomped past. His personality never ceases to amaze me! We have high hopes of returning to the St. Louis County Fair for an encore in the future!
